IRONWOOD, MI (June 4, 2020) – From the early unfolding of the coronavirus pandemic, the people of Stormy Kromer put their can-do attitude to work, shifting from producing some of the highest quality outdoor gear to much needed personal protective equipment (PPE), primarily masks and gowns. As supplies to essential workers were fulfilled, and the need for masks for the general public unfolded, Stormy Kromer once again shifted production to meet a need.

“When we recognized the need for PPE for our frontline workers and quickly worked to shift our production, there was an outpouring of support from our customers for our action,” shared Gina Thorsen, president, Stormy Kromer. Adding “it’s really no surprise that our loyal supporters were true to their word and acted with generosity in purchasing these masks. We thank them because it allowed us to generously support these organizations.”

Sales of face coverings made with its iconic plaid flannel began on May 1 with 10% of sales being pledged to two organizations, which included the Gogebic Range Health Foundation located in Stormy Kromer’s hometown of Ironwood. The other organization was the St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center located in Flint, which has been a partner with Stormy Kromer since 2015, when its commercial sewing program helped Stormy Kromer expand additional sewing capacity. With the first month of sales completed, Stormy Kromer was proud to donate $9076.65 to each organization.

“Our organization is grateful to Stormy Kromer for its generous donation,” said Andrea Newby, executive director, Gogebic Range Health Foundation. “The funds could not have come at a better time when the need is so great. During the month of May our Foundation launched a fundraiser to support the efforts of the Iron County Health Department and the Western U.P. Health Department serving Gogebic County in response to COVID-19. Our partnership with Stormy Kromer has helped us reach our financial goal to distribute $5,000 to each county public health department.”

“I am in awe at the partnership with Stormy Kromer and applaud their generosity in this time of pandemic. We are abundantly grateful at St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center for the partnership with Stormy Kromer and their generous donation.” offered Sister Carol, director. “The donation will be used to continue education and training of women who desire to learn a skill that could lead to a job which can change their lives and the lives of their families.”

The masks are still for sale online and at local Stormy Kromer retailers for $12 each. Donations will continue to be made to the organizations as long as the need for face coverings continue. To learn more please visit https://www.stormykromer.com/flannel-face-covering/.
