Stormy Kromer releases U.S. Cranial Report
Ironwood, MI — In celebration of National Fall Hat Week, Stormy Kromer, makers of the world’s most recognizable cap, has released results of its U.S. Cranial Report. The report found the average size of American heads grew only slightly in 2016, and didn’t affect the average hat size of American men or women, which remained at 7 1/2 and 7 1/4 respectively.
“Ironically almost everyone knows their shoe size and shirt size off the top of their head, but generally don’t know their hat size,” said Gina Thorsen, president of Stormy Kromer. “There have been numerous studies that have tried to link head size to intelligence or correlate it to foot size, but the only thing we are certain of is that head size is directly proportional to hat size.”
Some key findings from the report:
- For the second year, Northeasterners maintained cranial dominance with the largest heads of any region.
- Arkansas over took Maine for residents with the biggest melons.
- Men from the Great Lakes have the largest heads of any region.
- Hoosiers are the most level headed. Indiana was the only state whose head size didn’t change.
- Cowboy heads ballooned in 2016. Wyoming residents had the largest gain in head size.
Stormy Kromer, maker of caps since 1903, recently made a 9 1/4 sized cap for a customer in Los Angeles, the largest cap the company has produced for a human. Stormy Kromer handcrafts its caps in its facility in Ironwood, MI in the state’s Upper Peninsula where it has the World’s Largest Stormy Kromer on display, a size 96.
The Stormy Kromer U.S. Cranial Report is based on the company’s caps sales data from September 2014 through August 2016. The report is unscientific and does not take into account regional or personal hairstyle or hat fitting preferences.
